Welcome to the department of Electrical Engineering at Government Polytechnic, Gajapati, Paralakhemundi, Odisha. The department works with the objective of addressing critical challenges faced by the Industry, society, and the academia. Perhaps even more important is our unceasing commitment to our students, helping them to learn, grow, develop, and achieve their goals in their pursuit to excel in their professional career.

The department was established in the year 2013 and since its inception the department has evolved from offering only diploma in engineering courses to offer under graduate in key areas of electrical engineering.

The department faculty work with excellent team spirit in different technical team like Power System, Electrical Machines, Power Electronics, Electrical Installation & Estimating, Control System, Renewable Energy, Electrical Measurement & Instrumentation, Power Generation Transmission and Distribution, which leads to improve their knowledge in these areas. To motivate the students, the department organizes regular training in state of art software & hardware, arranges workshop, technical events, seminars & industrial visit. The department provide a conducive environment for the students to develop analytical and practical skills and apply them to real world problems.

The department has the following well equipped labs to cater the needs of the diploma students:

  • To become a front-runner to solve future issues and socially responsible Electrical Engineer to serve the global needs and challenges of the society.

Mission:

  • To build an academic infrastructure which will provides quality professional through modern technology in Electrical Engineering.
  • To establish relation between technical education with industry and society for developing competent engineer.
  • To enable students to develop skills to solve technical issue.

The Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

  • To develop the knowledge in basic fundamentals of engineering and science to solve day today life technical issues.
  • To build capacity to solve industry issues with the help of new software, design and testing.
  • Update their knowledge continuously through the lifelong learning and utilized it in the field of electrical engineering.

Programme Outcomes:

  • PO1:-ENGINEERING KNOWLEDGE: Inculcate and apply knowledge of Basic mathematics, Science and Fundamentals of Electrical engineering
  • PO2:-PROBLEM ANALYSIS: Ability to identify, define and analyse complex electrical engineering problems and to reach reasonable solution using principles of basic science and engineering.
  • PO3:- DESIGN/DEVELOPMENT OF SOLUTION: Ability to design system components or processes to fulfill Socio-Economic and Environmental needs.
  • PO4:- MORDEN TOOL USAGE: Ability to improve efficiency and accuracy through appropriate usage of modern engineering and ICT tools within limits
  • PO5:- ETHICS: Ability to utilize moral, professional ethics and responsibilities in engineering practice.
  • PO6: ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY: Understand the impact of environmental challenges and develop solutions to mitigate them to achieve sustainable development
  • PO7: PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND FINANCE: Apply the principles to be accountable for completion of socio-economic project within specified budget and time period

  • Apply Engineering and Laboratory skills for Maintenance and control of various types of static and rotating electrical machineries and electrical power system components..
  • Apply appropriate techniques and modern engineering hardware and software in various electrical applications to engage in life-long learning in the field of Electrical Engineering.
  • Realization of practical applications that enhance the quality of life in local communities and analyze the environmental impact.

I) Electrical Machine Lab – I

Electrical Machine Lab-I is an essential laboratory for the Electrical Department that provides support to the students to strengthen the fundamentals of machines. This laboratory not only imparts knowledge to the undergraduate students to understand basic machinery but also equips them with the skills required to adapt to advanced concepts of machines.

II) Electrical Machine Lab – II

Electrical Machine-II provides both the fundamental and advanced information regarding the AC machine. This laboratory not only makes the student familiar with the AC machines but also provides the technical knowledge regarding the analysis of special machines, speed control of different three-phase induction motor, Synchronous Motor. Electrical Machine-II laboratory is primarily focusing on the three-phase machines to understand the various technical concepts of rotating fields and also analyzing the performance characteristics of the three-phase machines.

III) Electrical Workshop Practice Lab

An electrical workshop practice lab is a place to learn about electrical systems and components through practical work. Students can learn about:

  • Tools and equipment: How to use tools and equipment like screwdrivers, Tester, Plier, chisels, hammers, and hacksaws
  • Electrical circuits: How to analyze and test circuits, and how to design and build circuits and different conductor joint.
  • Wiring: How to wire houses, stairs, and distribution boxes, switch board etc.
  • Electrical components: How to identify and test components like resistors, capacitors, and transistors, repairing of ceiling fan, connection of different lamp
  • Electrical safety: How to handle and maintain electrical equipment safely

IV) Circuit & Simulation Lab

A circuit and simulation lab is a place where students can learn about and simulate electrical circuits and systems. This lab will focus on simulation of series RLC. (resistor inductor-capacitor) circuits to demonstrate transient analysis and Student can able to design a circuit and analyze the circuit by using software like Matlab.

V) Simulation Practice on MATLAB

In MATLAB, student can simulate models by preparing inputs and outputs, configuring conditions, running simulations, and analyzing the results. Simulation software helps predict how a system will behave. It can be used to test designs, diagnose problems, and more.

VI) Power Electronics & PLC Lab

A power electronics lab is a place where students and researchers learn about power electronics, an area of electrical engineering that focuses on controlling the flow of electrical power. Student can able to learn how to simulate power electronic circuits and devices, and how to work with common components like batteries, motors, and power semiconductors.
